Our focus this year will be on protection of riparian areas, areas
adjacent to our streams that are being cleared which is resulting in increased
runoff and erosion. Ideally, these areas should be left undisturbed for
approximately 100 feet. Even removing river cane and grass will often
destabilize the site during high water. Once erosion starts, it is almost
impossible to stop. As one section is “rip-rapped” (large rocks are placed
along the bank), the area immediately downstream erodes.

Continue our educational programs for
citizens and municipal officials focusing on watershed protection and its
relationship to our health, happiness and economic prosperity.
·
Continue our advocacy of 1) the adoption
of best management practices 2) low impact development strategies and 3)
compliance with state and local water law through public participation in
monitoring and ADEQ enforcement, if necessary.
·
Continue to advocate that stream bed
gravel mining be stopped in Arkansas, except for limited and appropriate
removal by landowners.
·
Continue to expand the Stream Team
program and work toward more water quality testing on the North Fork and White
Rivers and their tributaries.
·
Continue to alert YOU when there is an
opportunity to express your voice on matters of water policy.
·
Continue to ask the hard questions that
no one else wants to ask, while maintaining an attitude of personal respect for
every person. It's the policies not the people. Let your local government officials know what you think.

blog, more pictures and videos.
